The start of the 30th year of the Imperia Vintage Yacht Challenge

September 2016

The third leg of the Mediterranean Circuit of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge

From 7 to 11 September the marina of Imperia welcomes the fleet of vintage yachts for the ninth leg of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, the most famous gathering of vintage yachts in the world.
The Imperia Vintage Yacht Challenge is one of the most important events for classic vessels; it has now reached its 30th year and it is famous throughout the world as a superb regatta which is always a source of great excitement. But not only that, Imperia is an unmissable occasion because of the many activities and events which take place in the harbour itself and in the picturesque streets of this little city on the sea. The whole city is involved and eager to celebrate another week devoted entirely to the great ladies of the sea.

Already there are many entrants in the Classic, Vintage and Big Boats categories, which as well as trying to win the race at Imperia will also be trying to improve their position in the overall classification of the Challenge, aiming to win the Trophy sponsored by Officine Panerai which will be awarded at the Régates Royales in Cannes. At the moment in the Vintage category there are five yachts separated by just a few points, Chinook, Leonore, Enterprise, Skylark of 1937 and Rowdy: all are ready to go to sea again to compete against each other, as they did in the last century. Among the Classic yachts, at the moment Encounter, Sagittarius and Outlaw are the main challengers for victory, but still anything could happen and the results at Imperia will be crucial in winning the Trophy. Among the Big Boats, Hallowe’en and Moonbeam are ahead of Cambria by just a single place: which yacht will win?
