THE ARGENTARIO SAILING WEEK – AN ITALIAN-STYLE CLASSIC!

June 2016

An exhilarating, sun-kissed round against the stunning backdrop of the Argentario peninsula, one of Tuscany’s most beautiful stretches of coastline.
A total of three races delivered spectacular performances from the 47 classic, vintage and Spirit of Tradition yachts taking part with the final clash taking place in around 16 knots of wind. The Argentario stage marked the debut outing in the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge for many of the participating yachts as well as a welcome return to the sea for other beauties, not least Patrizio Bertelli’s Linette.
Organised by the Yacht Club Santo Stefano, the Argentario Sailing Week also featured the second round of the Challenge of Challenges which, on this occasion, was reserved for yachts from the Classic category with Naïf and Atrevido beating Sagittarius and Madifra to line honours in their respective races.

The overall Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge Trophy rankings were topped by SKYLARK OF 1937 in the Vintage category, NAIF in the Classic and RAINDROP in the Spirit of Tradition. This leaves the field very much open with the result that the upcoming Imperia (September 7-11) and Cannes (20-24 September) stages will be all the more pivotal in deciding the winner of the final 2016 Trophy.

The PCYC circuit next moves to England for the Panerai British Sailing Week at Cowes between July 16 and 23 before crossing the Pond to the US for rounds at Nantucket and Newport.
