CLASSIC SAILING COMES TO TUSCANY: SECOND ROUND OF 2015 PANERAI CLASSIC YACHTS CHALLENGE FOR ARGENTARIO

June 2015

After the cote d’azur and before they sail on to the balearics, the grandes dames of the sea gather in tuscany for a challenge that brilliantly expresses the beauty, history and the uniqueness of classic sailing craft.

After the success of the French round at Antibes, the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge now moves on to Tuscany for the second stage of the 2015 Mediterranean Circuit. Between June 18 and 21, a fleet of around 50 classic and vintage yachts will gather at the Molo della Pilarella in Porto Santo Stefano, for the 16th Argentario Sailing Week, sponsored as per tradition by luxury sports watchmaker Officine Panerai, which is also taking part with its 1936 Bermudan ketch, Eilean. The event is being organised by the Yacht Club Santo Stefano, which is also responsible for the three races scheduled between Friday and Sunday.

The boats entered are all wood or metal-built, were launched between 1916 and 2014, and hail from Italy, France, Spain, Switzerland, Great Britain, Ireland and Panama. They will be divided into Big Boats, Vintage, Classic and Spirit of Tradition categories and the winner of each one will take home an Officine Panerai watch. On the dockside, a Race Village is also available to the crews and will include the Panerai Lounge, the now-traditional gathering place for owners and crews both pre and post-race.
