High spirits and exciting tales of hearty, adventurous sailing infused the atmosphere of the picturesque Corinthian Yacht Club this past weekend as hundreds of sailors gathered to celebrate the 16th annual Corinthian Classic Yacht Regatta in historic Marblehead. Fifty-four yachts registered for the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge (PCYC) North American Circuit opener, which began on Saturday morning with a Skipper’s Meeting and ended Sunday evening with the annual Prize-Giving Ceremony, presented by Panerai North American President Rafael Alvarez. In between, the competitors enjoyed two days of perfect — and sometimes boisterous — sailing conditions, with some yachts retiring from the race on Sunday afternoon given the drama and velocity of the high seas.

This is the 11th consecutive year the Florentine watchmaker has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting yachting culture and classic sailing with the sponsorship of nine regattas across the United States, Caribbean, England and the Mediterranean. For the sixth year Panerai has sponsored the Corinthian Classic Yacht Regatta, the season opener for the three-part Circuit, which continues on to the historic whaling island of Nantucket this weekend for the Opera House Cup and wraps up in Newport, RI over Labor Day weekend with the Museum of Yachting Classic Yacht Regatta.

Next stops on the PCYC North American Circuit

The 2015 Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge North American Circuit continues with the Opera House Cup (Nantucket, MA - August 16th) and the Museum of Yachting Classic Yacht Regatta (Newport, RI September 5th & 6th), where the Overall Best Performers in the PCYC North American Circuit will be presented with their trophies. Competitors must participate in two out of the three circuit legs in order to qualify for the Best Overall trophies in Newport.
