August 2016

Soon it will be time for the races at Newport, the final event of the North American Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. Here after the stages of Marblehead and Nantucket will be decided the winner of the American regattas of the PCYC.

Founded in 1980 by a group of Newport-based classic yacht owners and enthusiasts who wanted to preserve and promote the culture of classic yachting, the Newport Classic Yacht Regatta (CYR) brings together yachts designed and built by some of the greatest American yacht designers (Herreshoff, Sparkman & Stephens) from all over the region each year to compete in the final stage of the North American Circuit of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, which is held in the waters of Narragansett Bay. Over the years, these wonderful vessels have been maintained by passionate, talented professionals and yacht owners. The CYR is the final stage of the North American Circuit of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. Winners of the Panerai series will be presented with their awards at the ceremony on Sunday evening, 4 September.

The United States city of Newport, Rhode Island, is celebrated for its Mansions and in particular for its long history of sailing. For many years it was host city to the America’s Cup and today it is still a prominent sailing location in New England as well as being one of the nation’s cultural centres for classic yachting.
