Orologi Panerai

In depth

An exclusive Special Edition of just 50 to celebrate 10 Years of Passion.

To pay fitting homage to its historic links to the sea, Officine Panerai has, over the years, created a truly extraordinary collection of special edition Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge watches. This important 10-year anniversary too is being marked with an exclusive new model, the Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Titanio, of which just 50 examples will be made with the 10 Years of Passion logo on the caseback.

The Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Titanio features the sublimely classic 47 mm Panerai case designed to guarantee the Italian Navy Special Forces the exceptional robustness, reliability and underwater readability they required in a watch. It is made from brushed titanium, a hypoallergenic material that combines extreme corrosion resistance with great solidity and lightness. Thanks to its screw-down back and crown guard lever, the case is water-resistant to 30 atmospheres (approximately 300 metres) while a unidirectional rotating bezel allows wearers time their dives. With a seconds counter at nine o’clock and the classic date window at 3 o’clock, the model’s black dial features applied luminous hour markers and is supremely readable. The partly-skeletonised, luminescent hands also guarantee excellent visibility even in very deep water.

The Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Titanio is powered by the automatic manufacture calibre P.9000 with two barrels constantly charged by the oscillating weight in both directions, thus ensuring a 3-day power reserve.

There is also a special system for regulating the hour hand which can be moved backwards and forwards in jumps of exactly one hour, without interfering with the running of the minutes.

The Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Titanio (PAM00571) sports a rubber strap that will sit perfectly on the wrist of any yachtsperson. It also comes with a spare strap that is easily changed using the patented Panerai lug system and special tools provided.

Movement

P.9000

The P.9000 calibre, created entirely by Officine Panerai and used in a series of Luminor 1950 and Radiomir models, is fitted with various functions: it is an automatic calibre with a 3-day power reserve and a unique technical design which makes these movements immediately recognizable. The calibre has a diameter of 13¾ lignes and numerous features: two barrels which guarantee 72 hours of power reserve; a single piece rotor which winds by moving in both directions thanks to an automatic ratchet device; a balance wheel with adjusting screws, oscillating at a frequency of 4 Hz. To house this movement, a specially made version of the Luminor 1950 case has been designed, keeping the proportions of the original but featuring a slightly less convex sapphire crystal which only barely protrudes from the bezel.
